A crate may be a good option for you, especially if you need to leave the puppy for even a few minutes. Puppies are like babies and they need looking after all of the time. If they are left on their own for even one minute it is a possibility that they will relieve themselves in the home. However in a crate they are more reluctant to do this and so that can help to potty train them.
 
 Potty training a puppy is certainly mainly about persistence and common sense. Know your puppy and spend the right amount of time with them and you will then know instinctively when the puppy needs to relieve themselves.
